It’s more than an image…..
The same picture seen by a hundred people will mean different things to each and every person.
Sure, there will be some similarities in that hundred folk but there will be even more differences.
For some, it will bring back memories of being there.
For others. it might conjure up a wish to visit.
Emotion may be of more import to some.
Others still, may simply immerse themselves in the image whether it be the colour, the composition, the light, the techniques used in processing.
My hope is that my images cause people to smile - we need more of that!
I'm a travel photographer based in the North of England. Having travelled all my life, I'm passionate about recording those scenes that make travel so rewarding.
In my time I’ve been an army officer, a doctor, a shop assistant, a school teacher, a bartender and a distiller (of some great gin).
I enjoy making pasta, cooking curries, not to mention relaxing with the arts of Tai Chi and Qigong. I love riding my motorcycle. In my time, I used to be able fly a plane, play cricket and rugby and I have climbed many mountains,
My heroes are Steve McQueen (actor), Leonardo da Vinci, Bjorn Borg (tennis), Richard Burton (actor), Gregory Peck (actor), Don Bradman (cricketer), The Who (rockstars!). Ansell Adams (photographer) is a shoe in too.
My favourite films include Where Eagles Dare, Hot Fuzz, Gladiator, Galaxy Quest, High Society, 101 Dalmatians, Guardians of the Galaxy and Roman Holiday and my favourite TV series are The Rookie and Grey's Anatomy.
Music tastes vary from Mozart to Green Day and many, many performers in between, as long as you include Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller, Aretha Franklin and, of course, The Who.
My favourite camera .... don't really care. What resonates with me with regard to equipment for photography, sport or whatever is summed up in a (likely apocryphal story involving Ernest Hemmingway and Ansell Adams... Hemingway, impressed by Adams' photographs, asked, "You take the most amazing pictures. What kind of camera do you use?" Adams, in turn, countered with, "You write the most amazing stories. What kind of typewriter do you use?"
I love backgammon, mah jong (not just for oldies - just watch it being played in public in Beijing!), chess and dice games.
Most importantly of all, I love my role as a husband, a Dad and a dog lover (we have 5..!).
